Great Ocean Road

Postby Michaelpav57 » Tue 06 Feb, 2018 4:07 pm

We are walking the 'Great Ocean Walk" in April but are struggling with getting to Apollo Bay on Sunday April 22nd reasonably early to begin our walk. We have something on in Melbourne the night before and all we can think of is V/line bus which will get us to Apollo Bay around 1.00. We would love to get there a bit earlier to give us plenty of time to make the 1st campsite at Elliot Ridge.

We are Queenslanders and have no inside knowledge on this. Has anybody got any advice on this. Any advice on the trip from 12 Apostles back to Melbourne (that doesn't cost too) much would also be appreciated.

It’s only 11 km to the first campsite.
Even if you start walking at 2pm you should be there well before sunset at 6pm.
The first section is very gentle so you should be able to manage 4km/h without too much difficulty.

For the return trip your best bet is probably the V-Line bus to Geelong and thence train to Melbourne.

If you can spare the time then stop into a surf shop and rent a wet suit and a board and have a surf.
