State of the Jamieson Spur

Postby Xavante » Tue 07 Aug, 2018 6:34 am

I've read a few older stories about the state of the Jamieson Spur from Brocks Road up to the Bluff. Anyone have any recent experiences or updates about the state of access along the spur? I'm looking to head up there in a few weeks as part of a circuit, but accept I may need to opt for the Refrigerator Gap Track, which will add many hours. Lastly, is Brocks Road accessible in winter for a 2WD? Your comments are much appreciated.

I would be interested to get an update on this subject for my Xmas hike 2018.

We did n't bother with this route and just slogged it down the Refrigerator gap track. One imagines there would be hellish post bushfire regrowth down that route for sure.

I can't comment on the current state of Jamieson Spur but I recall something a while back about it being overgrown. It may be possible to get to Brocks road in a 2wd during winter but I would not recommend it. Gravity will help to get your there. You can only get as far as Cairn Creek track along Brocks road in winter before you hit the locked gate. I came out one winter during a snow storm and it was not long before I was driving on a foot of fresh snow. Definitely not a 2wd situation.

I could get my RAV 4 with A/T tyres (and snow chains in the boot up) up there in winter. Of course taking a chain saw is not optional.
