PROPOSED PROTECTED FOREST FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA
"Some community groups are calling for a continuous network of protected forest to be created, in Far East Gippsland, from the mountains to the sea.
The proposed ‘Emerald Link’ would connect the alpine Errinundra National Park with Cape Conran Coastal Park.
Some of the area between the existing national parks, that some community groups are calling to change to protected status, are state forest zoned for logging."
The trail would extend from Errinundra Plateau down to Cape Conran. It is a proposed long distance hiking trail, but seems to also be multi use (ie mountain bikes, not sure what else). Proposed that some of the campsites will be car accessible.
Seems to be another proposal developed by people with good intentions, but no real knowledge of what users want. I for one would not be interested in a wilderness walk that shares campsites with car users. Nor mountain bikes for that matter. And transport to trail heads in that area is not easy.
This seems to be in the early stages, its a proposal put up by Goongerah Environment Group who are trying to protect the forests from logging. A great cause, not sure how much government support it will get.
