Water Federation Hut Mt Feathertop

Postby OG1 » Thu 07 Mar, 2019 11:33 am

Hi,
I am heading to Federation Hut (below Mt. Feathertop) on Saturday March 10. Just wondering if anyone has current knowledge of the water situation there... Is there any water in the tank at the hut and the nearby springs?
Regards,
Graham

There is a fire alert for the Hotham heights area.It will be very smoky out there with the fire near Mayford /Dargo High Plains still well out of control.

Not if the wind is blowing from the west or north west. The southerly system we had come through on Wednesday shifted the smoke a bit and we woke to smoke at home in the morning but all clear now. Feathertop is west of us so it should be the same.

Thanks Paidal and Xplora... Yes, I've been watching it on the Emergency app. I have a friend on the inside so will consult them before making the final decision. I'm keen to know about the water situation there should we end up going... Even treated, ash tasting water, is better than none.

The spring on the way to the MUMC hut will be flowing. Worth the walk, as the water is some of the best around.

Tuned out to be really good conditions - just a little smoke haze, but not bad at all. Water at the Federation Hut tank was surprisingly good. I treated it, but didn't appear to have any ash contamination. A lot of people camped there Saturday night and a lot walking in on Sunday... Until it rains again I suspect the tank will be pretty low.

Can you confirm whether the spring on the way to MUMC hut is flowing? We are heading there next weekend and want to make sure there is water available.

Thanks for the update OG1. Was the spring flowing?
