Mitchell River Walking Track

Anyone done this hike before?

I was thinking this might be my first overnighter (without a guide anyway)... It looks reasonably easy. Am I correct?

I was thinking I could spend the night at Billy Goat Bend.

If anyone has any info that would be great...

Also keen to know if there's any other good day-walks worth doing nearby (ie. in case I finish up and am still keen for more)?

Is this section of the Mitchell River good for swimming in?

I've only done a bit of it, from Billy Goat to Nargun's Den (and a scrubbash up the hill to the car park) and back. Yes, easy walking for the most part. Disappointingly large amount of weed around, but that's nothing new.
Far as I know you can swim, but you need to watch out for canoes. It's very popular amongst the paddlers.

Tawonga Huts or some of the other huts in the area, starting from Pretty Valley on the Bogong High Plains are excellent novice hikes too.

That bit of the Bogong High Plains is really choice- you'll see lots of Brumbies too- I got to within about 40 metres of a mob up there- absolutely magnificent (even if destructive). Just be prepared for weather up there- one New Year's Eve 5 years ago we got sun, rain, hail, snow and sun again, all in the same 20 minutes, and it started out like 15c and ended 15c!
