3 day Christmas hike

Postby Hikrazy » Tue 15 Dec, 2020 5:58 pm

Hello,
I am looking for any recommendations for a 3 day hike.
Must haves -
1. Ferns and creeks/rivers
2. 200km from Melbourne
3. 50 to 80km loop.
4. Hard difficulty is preferred.

Must avoids -
1. Popular/heavy used tracks.
2. vehicle tracks.

I have exhausted most parks west of Melbourne. Experienced hiker.

Thanks
Hikrazy

Sorry, my own experience of Victorian bushwalking is very limited, but you may get a better response by also posting this in the Victoria forum.

Lorne to sharps via erskine falls and the canyon. Sharps to Allanvale via Cumberland and sheoak falls. Allenvale to lorne via st George's river.

Fails the popular track condition and has some road links.

It sounds like your ready for a Northern Wilsons Prom circuit...
Closer to home is Lerderderg.. Mckenzie Flat to O'Briens crossing up the Lerderderg river come back Whiskey track, Vodka track over Mt Blackwood then either down Mckenzeie track back to river or Ah Kow Track to Blackwood Ranges track on the scenic rim, cutting back to river on either spur down of the 8 km circuit walk.If that's too short you can add the Byers back track, there and back, from O'briens.

Go a bit further and walk some of the AAWT from The Nobs to Mt. Clear. You will have to carry extra water.
Or walk a loop of the Bogong High Plains from starting from Howman's gap or Bogong village. That should keep you occupied.
