Hard to believe this is the same lagoon - I know it is because I can see the same trees !

Thanks for the heads up about the hill climb at Ben Nevis. We're hoping to explore that area soon and climb to the top. Have you seen any Sambars while exploring the Ben Nevis area?

I saw some deer tracks in the mud at the start of the Borella Walk, which starts from near the Chinamans campground and ends up at the top of Ben Nevis.

Cool, I've heard there are deer in the park. It's amazing that we have so much wildlife so close to home. I haven't done the Borella walk yet, but it's on my list of walks to do in the near future and I'll probably be doing it in August. I wonder if I'll see a deer?

There are some details of the deer in the area here.

I'm curious about koalas in the area. According to the DSE park notes for Mt Cole they are "commonly seen" but we sure didn't see any!

Have seen a few deer in both but its a rare sighting

same here, No Koalas but did the Paradise walk today and came across two very intent boxing wallabies. They went at it for at least 10 minutes that we were watching quite close by. Obviously the threat from each other was much more intense than us being near.

Yes Brad I was there on Sunday from about 10.30am. I usually take telegraph track up and come down the Borella walk.

Next week Dad and I are doing a 2-day walk in Langi Ghiran State Park and I will try to put up a trip report with photos.
Below is the plan:

Day 1:
Walk up Easter Creek Track until we get to a cairn indicating a summit trail and walk to the summit from there, with a bit of a scrub bash towards the end.
We'll then make our way back to Easter Creek Track and walk until we reach Hidden Lagoon Track. We will walk along Hidden Lagoon Track until we get to Hidden Lagoon campsite where we will camp the night (If we can find it ).

Day 2
The next day we will walk along Hidden Lagoon Track until we get to the start of Link Track. From here we will make a path through the bush to Mount Gorrin.
We will scrub bash to the summit of Mount Gorrin, then we will descend the mountain and walk to the highway to get picked up by the family vehicle.

I don't know if you can talk about off-track walking on this forum, so I am sorry in advance if I'm not meant to be.

All up this should be around 20km but the terrain will make it hard going so they should be long days of walking.

All our gear is packed, dads pack weighed in at 16.6 kg, mine is 15 kg. Ready to leave early for Langi Ghiran tomorrow. To save weight we are using our video camera to take still shots too, but it only takes 5.0 megapixel stills, so the photos won't be fantastic.

With recent rains, you might be able to collect water from a few small rock holes on way to the summit. Bring along a small cup and a water container for the collection. Attached below is a pix, the route to the summit done some months ago. It might be of use for day one. Park Victoria, Park Notes and "Daywalks Around Vic" guide book by Glenn Tempest have a lot to offer. Happy walking.

I never sent you those cords for hidden lagoon or Gorrinbut both are easy to find.

Dad ended up getting those coordinates from some other website I think. They were very accurate and both Hidden Lagoon and Mount Gorrin were rather easy to find. In some places, the undergrowth was so impenetrable I could have used a machete.

Just a couple of notes:
. Hidden Lagoon was full. I will post a pic below.
. Lagoon Track had lots of fallen trees over the track to walk around.

Dad has just informed me of the distance of our walk. It was 7 km on the first day, and 8.7 km on the second day, so our walk was 15.7 km, a fair effort when battling 5-foot tall sword grass!

Late yesterday i decided to do an overnighter.
Got dropped off at link track and headed straight up towards Hidden Lagoon. The ranger was out after someone with dogs and stopped me on the way for a chat.
From Hidden lagoon I went off track towards the peak of Langi Ghiran but it got dark before i could get there so ended camping on the west side at just under 900m.
This morning i walked back down onto the east side of the range to be picked up.

Even though it was a long weekend no one else was around except for a wild pig near my camp.

There will be fresh rock pools around the peaks if that what your after

Yes I've seen some (particular when descending the N side of Mt LG), but I'm not game to rely on them being there.
