Killarney glen

Killarney glen is closed until Sun 5th June, due to fuel reduction burnoffs in the area...just in case anyone's thinking of heading in there this weekend.
I was heading in yesterday... no dice.

Thanks for the "heads-up" mate! So, what's in the Killarney Glen? Waterfalls? Gorge?

Both.
Heart falls is the main draw card for locals, with Emerald pools & the Portals a further 20mins upstream.

You can also abseil or off-track rock hop down the creek from Beechmont to Killarney Glen.
About 5 or 6 falls in total to bypass with a swim through near the end.
Do-able as overnighter or a long day trip.

Righty-ho, I'm thinking of the wrong area. Had some notion that it was somewhere near Killarney (east of Warwick). I've heard that there is an interesting spot a few kms North of Queen Mary's Falls - thought that was the one you were talking about

Just a heads up for those heading out for a swim on a sultry summer day...

Drove out Killarney Glen today with my 5yo looking for some adventurous river rock hopping...signs up, fence gate closed & padlocked. Sadly someone died at the swimming hole roughly a year ago & its been closed every since.

So we tried Lip Falls just up the hill...track closed sign about half way along at the falls lookout. We ignored that & kept on going, as did the other locals.
Great little rock hop above Lip falls up to the base of Denham falls. Water temp in the gorge pools was perfect for soaking & a couple of rain showers brought the waters surface alive.

Lipstick red native raspberries noticed on the return trip were tasted...not as full flavoured as the domesticated varieties, novelty value only.
Running wild passion fruit vines with fruit that weren't quite ready yet.

No idea why the council can't fix the access issues to these local swimming holes. Maybe a 'enter at your risk' sign if they & the landowners are worried about liability.

...And for those not entirely happy with the access issues to the beautiful swimming holes of Killarny Glen & Lip Falls inbetween Canungra & Beechmont, eg...locals, photographers, bushwalkers & abseilers etc etc, it seems the Scenic Rim Regional Council are the people to contact to get some answers.

The track to Lip Falls has been closed for sometime now (over 6 months).

Once Killarney Glen was officially closed, the majority of the traffic was diverted to Lip Falls and as a good length of the track runs directly through private property, it was closed shortly after (due to liability reasons, etc).

Pity as the falls in this area are beautiful.

It has been some years since (more than once) abseiling the falls (Denham, Lip, Cavern, Double falls) down Back Creek, but access was gained to Denham Reserve and the creek from Doncaster Drive - where we parked the car. The route was identical to shatkins in Wikiloc:

and at no time does it cross private property - but the track (used when walking back to the cars) does go alongside property fence lines for a short distance. I have no knowledge of the situation further down the creek towards Killarney Glen (past Double falls).
Google Street View dated Sep 2014 at the Doncaster Drive entrance shows two tourist buses parked - the tourist traffic seems to have increased.

Yes, I was hoping to to hop down Back Ck from Denham Reserve to Killarney Glen, taking in all those falls along the way...

No feedback from the Council yet.
Since the exit & emergency exit route is at Killarney Glen on defence land I might call into the Army Training centre & have a chat to someone on the front gate.

Won't be for while though, my right knee has blown up like a grapefruit for some reason.

ah, a common bushwalking complaint with related posts elsewhere in the forum as you would know. Make sure you get a doctors opinion now as to the true cause and remedy. Either that or brush up on your stamp collecting skills.
