Good Overnight Hikes for school students

Hi everyone,

I am wanting to organize an overnight hike for around March or so next year for around 30-40 senior high school students somewhere around Brisbane to help prepare them for the Kokoda Challenge in July. Ideally the hike would be around the 30-40km mark from start to finish with an overnight stop in the middle somewhere. Also, ideally both camp sites would have road access so that we didn't need to carry all of our camping gear etc. and could meet a 'support crew' at the camp site.

Initially (without hiking it myself yet at this stage), I'm thinking the Binna Burra to O'Reilly's stretch of the great walk but I'm concerned that the campsites may not be large enough to accommodate so many people (50 odd including staff members). Any suggestions/links to maps or websites would be great!

Contact one of the experienced staff at the Maroon Outdoor Education Centre
http://www.maroonoec.eq.edu.au/
- phone or email, if there is something suitable they should know.

- and p.s.- once you have chosen a time and place can you let us know so we can make sure to be somewhere else......

Have you contacted your local scout group? They would likely have some good ideas for what you're after

OK - I assume you are a teacher, or are somehow affiliated with a school.

Perhaps the Sunshine Coast Environmental Education Centre Sunday Creek camp can provide what you are looking for.

Thanks for the contacts guys. I'm hoping to keep costs to a minimum as the students at the school I work at don't have a heap of money to spend on excursions and the school budget for this stuff is next to nothing as well.

I'll give these guys a try though and see how I go! I'll also be sure to let you know, although you'll most likely hear us coming a mile away so you'll have plenty of time to evacuate before your peaceful campsites are invaded by teenagers!
