Read this yesterday. Sadly the woman passed away. What's the state of the Mount Ngungun summit trail? I've not had the chance to go up there, but keen to head up Mount Beerwah summit later this year.

A woman has fallen to her death on a mountain on the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Police confirmed the woman had been found dead after emergency crews were called to Mount Ngungun, in the Glass House Mountains, about 10am on Thursday.

What's the state of the Mount Ngungun summit trail?

Quite a few years since I did it but it was very straightforward then. A nice short walk with great views. Just steepish at the start from memory.
Looks like that headline is a bit misleading - "It had been reported the woman had been abseiling down the mountain when she fell". I know the opposite side to the walking track ascent is a rock climbing and abseiling venue. There were a number of climbers on the summit the time we were there. A tragic outcome regardless, sincere condolences to her family and friends.

The Ngungun summit trail is very straightforward as johnw said, even in wet weather there would not be any potential for a fatal drop. At the summit there are some cliff edges with big drops but they are easy to stay away from.

Sadly a misunderstanding of news and events. Words from SES personal who attended suggest that it was sadly a person choosing to end their life. With no rope and no harness you can not be called a rock climber. Its unfortunate the circumstances that must of led to this and unfortunate for the rescue crews/public involved in the situation. Condolences to the family but certainly not a climber, possibly not even a hiker to the extent of us on the forum. Climb/hike safe.

This is a reply to your query about the walk. Between the two times I visited they've done much upgrading and there are many steps where once there was a scramble. It's still steep but a whole lot easier than it once was.
