Food Drop and Accomm Thredbo and Hotham

In July/August I will be trekking across the ACT, NSW and VIC Alps solo for suicide prevention. This is also kindly sponsored by Australian Geographic Society.
I am looking for 2 convenient places, preferably free, because sponsorship doesn't go far when buying gear for a 4-6 week alpine traverse, at Thredbo and Hotham where I can pick up a food pack, have a hot shower or 2, do some laundry, eat food that doesn't come out of a sealed foil bag and sleep on something like a lounge, sofa or patch of floor.
To learn more about what I'm doing you can visit www.thehappywalk.com or PM me or phone the contact number on the website
Cheers

When I did AWT some years ago we buried food near the Mitta Mitta crossing and Dead Horse Gap. We put it in 20 litre unused paint drums, taped the top and buried it. One container would hold 8 days of food for one person. When we were driving through to set up for the walk we scouted around Hotham and found one of the summer residents/caretakers and left the food drums in the foyer of their unit.

It is a good idea to leave a few "treats" in your food drop that you eat on the day of the pickup.

At all these places we managed to give the drums (including all our non-burnable rubbish) to a passing motorist with no problems. We would give letters to the motorists as well (they all got through) (This was the days before mobile phones, just so our folks knew we were okay).

After a week or two on the trail the last thing we wanted to see was a building, car, shower etc. Couldn't get away from Dead Horse Gap quick enough!

I'd contact the ski village operators or similar as they probably have resident caretakers/maintenance people there over summer (as we found) who may be able to assist.

Feel free to PM me.

Thanks Clarence :)
I have Thredbo sorted and will be seeing friends there, having a hot shower, doing some laundry and recharging batteries. Works out well. Hotham looks to be sorted too.
I would have done the same, buried food drops along the way, if I had been able to get down there before the snow and had access to a vehicle but unfortunately it didn't come together in time. It is weird planning food drops from a distance.
The things we do for adventure! :D
