Winter 2017 Falls Creek skiing

Postby Moondog55 » Mon 10 Oct, 2016 7:06 am

The Boss has approved the purchase of a Hero Pass for next winter
This will be an In & Out with no pre-season food dump
Looking for a like minded partner for some free-heel skiing for August

Share preparation/tent rebuilding etc and of course the car for the drive up and back.
I already have the sleds so no work involved there except the hauling

Provisionally keen.

I have (will have...) a nice cushy (heated) campervan, complete with hot shower, kitchenette and bulk solar/battery storage, and a big storage space. So plenty of options there for moving gear, or even a below snow-line base camp prior to heading off. Not too thirsty on the gas either.

HOWEVER - I have never skii'd, and have none of my own gear. Cross-country is on my list of "things I should have learned 3 years ago" and I still haven't had the opportunity to.

I have no idea whether that rules me out and wouldn't blame you AT ALL if you only want the compentant to accompany you. Even so, VERY likely the van will be based up round that region anyway for a few weeks over winter while I go snowshoeing at least. Would still be happy to assist.

What's wrong with being a beginner?
We all start somewhere and there is nothing wrong with snowshoes for sled hauling, I use them myself for very heavy loads
If you can find a pair of 75mm duckbill boots I can always loan you a set of skis
Start a thread in "Equipment" and see what others think you need

New BUMP because I now have the big tent, although that will be a work-in-progress for a while.

Hey Moondog,

Not sure if you mean me. She has her Bag and went pretty well. It was pretty cold that night last year but we were all ok.

This year my younger daughter (6yo) will be joining me so no Pretty Valley this year. We will be just staying up at Dinner Plain at JB Plain Hut. This will be the three (or 4) of us there. This will mean, we have the car close and ready to use if we need to.

Its kind of a first chance for the youngest to experience this kind of trip. We might make it to Pretty Valley in 2018 though

Hope you have a really good trip Moondog!

Cheers

Some bad news on the medical front means I won't be doing the usual long term winter camp this year. At this point I don't know when I will be going up for a week or two either.
My doctors don't want me skiing hard until after the double hip replacement. Not allowed to train bt dragging the tyre around the block and such like
So this winter will be a very light weight trip and I am even asking a mate on the mountain to drop off my gear for me to keep the weight off my joints
