Lift from Edith Fallls back to Katherine

Postby Sasha » Fri 31 May, 2013 2:24 pm

Hi

How easy would it be for two people to get a lift from Edith Falls back to Katherine early July, o a Saturday. we will be finishing the Jatbalu track, doing the short last stage, and would prefer to get the Greyhound bus from Kathrine to Darwin in the middle of the day, not in the late afternoon...Gecko has only a 3pm pick up from Edith Falls to Katherine which would get us onto the 5.45 bus to Darwin, a bit late.

Thanks for your help.

I think you will find that Gecko will do a morning pick up around 10:00am but the cost is slightly higher at around $50+ per person(it's cheaper if you can find more people). Did it a couple of years ago without problem and got back into Katherine in plenty of time to catch the midday bus to Darwin. Hope this helps

The Gecko pickups only run when there are bookings - they dont turn up if there arent any so if your timing is critical, best to book ahead especially for the 10am pickup (the 3pm is more popular as it allows for a leisurely walk/swims etc along the last section from Sweetwater). Alternatively, leave Sandy Camp early and do the last two sections as one longer day so you have an extra day in hand. The drawback is that Sandy Camp is so beautiful a spot it's great to take your time and just enjoy being there after a longish walk the previous day from 17 Mile Falls - and the same for the last section from Sweetwater to Edith Falls, there are quite a few beautiful places for a swim or just to stop and enjoy.
