Larapinta trail

Postby russ752 » Sun 05 Jul, 2015 10:23 pm

Planning on a Larapinta walk late July. Just wondering if anyone has suggestions of secure parking somewhere in Alice for duration of the walk? Have looked at the long term parking option at the airport but it is ridiculous.

If you contact NT Parks, they can give you a contact number for the ranger at Simpsons Gap. They will allow you to park there near the helipad for free. There is some limited risk associated but it's much less than parking in town. This does then add the problem of transport from Simpsons back to the Alice. I solved this by starting my walk there, with an out and back to Alice via a combination of the Larapinta and the cycle tracks.
My car was there for 12 days without any issues. It's not visible from the access road and the rangers generally go in there regularly although they won't take any responsibility if anything happens.

Most hotels / resorts in Alice have secure parking. If you stay there before and after your walk you might be able to leave your car there.

Perhaps a BW.com member would be able to keep your car at their place while you walk?

Good suggestion - or you could try members of sites such as globalfreeloaders.com.

The Simpsons Gap option sounds good too.

I've found an ABBA CD or two left on the front seat is a good deterrent :D
