Larapinta Trail - 6 days

Postby flywire » Sat 25 Jun, 2016 5:25 pm

This is a post for a quick trip along the trail. If this is not what you are interested in then there are plenty of other posts over a longer period.

What are your thoughts on two sections per day?

Hi flywire, I'm interested.

A couple starting the same day as I did this May did it in 5 days, so I'm curious.

Regards

I would be interested to know how they did it in 5 days. Very careful planning I suppose. It took me 6 1/2 walking days.

I thought it would be worth collecting thoughts here. Key things are weather conditions, travel with a light pack, walking sticks and carefully plan stops as some parts are not suitable to camp on.

It's easy enough to find rough tent sites just about anywhere along the track, but only if you're prepared to carry water, which doesn't really fit with the lightweight and speed factors.

Alice to Simpsons is easy enough in one day with an early departure. I think the biggest problem with fitting it in to 5 or 6 days would be including the leg out to Rwetyepme and back. And if the water levels are up the Hugh Gorge section would be a bit slower as you'd have to bypass even more of the gorge floor.
