Walking Murchison Gorges at Kalbarri

Postby walkingman1 » Mon 26 Dec, 2016 4:14 pm

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could offer me some first hand advice on walking the gorges in Kalbarri National Park, between Hawks Head and Natures Window / The Loop carpark. I will be walking with 2 teenage children experienced at hiking and am planning July to avoid the heat. Could anyone offer general advice and on the following topics:

1). How many nights to schedule - we cover normally 20-30 km of Bibb track as day?
2). Will cold nights be an issue? Anyone seen frosts there?
3). If the river is flowing, does this become a safety issue in the gorges?
4). Does passing through the gorges need any more skill than rock-hopping?
5). How easy is it to access water along the way? I realise the river is saline and I am planning a water drop, but wondered if pools of water on rocks above the river are likely to be found?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards
