Best section of the Larapinta Trail

Thu 12 Jan, 2017 12:13 pm

I'm thinking of walking of section of the Larapinta Trail (3-5 days worth) sometime over winter this year.

Does anyone have recommendations of what the 'best' section of the trail may be? I'm interested in rugged scenery and do not mind how rough or remote a section may be.

Standley Chasm to Brinkley Bluff to Birthday Waterhole to Hugh Gorge.

Or just Standley to Birthday and a day to explore Redbank & Rwetyepme.

[What NNW said...sections 4&5]

I would think that sections 3 or 4 through 5 might be the pick of the bunch, though getting to the start /end points of that might be problematic.
You may need to add sections at each end to get suitable transport.

Having said that, sections 8 through 12 are pretty good too - and transport options might be easier.

I agree with above.
I walked West to East with 5 hill top camps (fill up and carry the water an extra few km's it's well worth it)....and looking back at my notes my ranking for the 12 sections was 3,4,5,9,12,8,11,10,1,6,2,7
