Larapinta 2019 - Absolute best time to go?

Mon 30 Apr, 2018 3:26 pm

I’m planning to do the Larapinta Trail E2E next year and would like recommendations on the best time to do it.

I’ll probably look at 16 days as that’s all I can get off work.
I’d prefer quieter rather than busier and hopefully not too many school groups!

Anytime between May and August is okay at the moment.

Thoughts?

I did it in the first two weeks of August and thought that it starting to get a bit too hot for me but I do not like the heat at all. Carrying a trekking umbrella was a worthwhile move. Personally I would be tempted to go early June as school holidays are usually at the very end of June and into July. For 2019, Victoria and Qld 29/6 to 14/7, NSW 6/7 to 22/7.

Like Mark I would do an early June start if I did it again - I left Alice on the 19th June and finished at Mt Sonder on the 7th July. It was getting a little "busy" (well relatively) once you got into July. As airfares are pretty expensive at the best of times, avoiding school holidays completely may assist in this regard.
