The echinda looked a bit worn and was very short of quills, espcially over the back.

We had no idea the Roarinf 40s set up was there until arrival and found out later whose it was. It is pretty impressive. Overall it is probably a good thing in that the impact of regular groups that Roaring 40s serves is very minimal, in a controlled location and easily removed.

I'll get onto a bit of a trip report over the next week or so.

Yer, the comment about the complex was aside. I really would like to see your trip report

I do have an interest in infrastructure within parks, the policy on such, future directions, ways around current (or past?) regulation etc (but as i said, aside from your great set of images, besides the immediately obvious question I would have about locking the toilet...)

I must admit my 1st reaction to the Roaring 40s stuff was very negative. But the more a thought about it and looked at it onsite the more I felt better about it. Except the locking of the toilets. They could have at least left 1 key tied to the door handle to keep them secure from beasties but still allowed the rare visitor the chance for a looked after toilet stop rather than burying it.

I have marked up a map (the original is 3mg so pm if you want a better look) with the route but not a lot of comment. And i had to cut off Melaleuca as our colour scanner limit is A3. The campsites were at Claytons' Corner, Platypus Point, Mt Rugby Saddle, Joan Point South East, Horseshoe Inlet, South side Forest Lagoon and finally Melaleuca.

Yes I really enjoyed those photos and would like to get down there myself some day. Is the roaring 40's a tourist operator?

No peak bagging points on rivers.

Maybe not, BUT Harrys Bluff, High Round Mtn, Norold, Wilson, Ripple, Castor would all be so so so easy from the Old River......

I'd rather get in there with a boat and diving gear. The walks can wait until I need a good long surface interval to outgas.
