Ben Lomond 8th Jan 2014

Postby Chris » Mon 13 Jan, 2014 9:30 pm

After a superb walk on Ben Lomond last week during which we saw no other walkers (as usual), I thought it may be worth another reminder about what's readily available to those of us who live in the North. We started at the village and basically followed ski poles to make a clockwise circuit. Easy walking with not much scree and we certainly saw the Scoparia I was hoping for, in prime condition. Not the full range of colours but still impressive. Plenty of Bellandena too. It's a wonderful natural garden.

3 years and it's even better, probably helped by the high rainfall.
Somewhat surprisingly it was particularly enhanced by the low cloud.

Great photos Chris which shows the magnificent colour on Ben Lomond at the moment. We did the Little Hell coming back via Surprise Valley yesterday, the wind was so strong it nearly blew us off the cairn at Little Hell! This is a wonderful place to walk and so close to Launceston. Trevor

Thanks Trevor.
The only other visitors that day were a French couple who were in Tassie for 3 weeks.
It's extraordinary how few locals visit such a magnificent place so close to Launceston.
