Bishop and Clerk - Maria Island

Postby stoogest » Thu 10 Apr, 2014 11:45 am

While access to Maria Island is easy, I do believe it acts as a barrier to many people, preventing them from enjoying some of the best bushwalking in the state.

Last year we completed the fantastic Bishop and Clerk bushwalk, using bikes to get get to the trail head, and then hoofing it from there. While the early section is relatively flat, it does become quite a challenging rock scramble the closer you get to the peak.

The views early on are incredible, looking out over the sheer cliffs towards Freycinet, while the final views from the top are just stunning.

I thoroughly recommend this walk to anyone wanting to try something a little bit different to the standard 'day walks' available in the Hobart area!

A full write up, including some more photos, can be found over at Two Clowns Tripping.

Thanks. It looks great. You've prodded me to get there sooner rather than later.

Now is the time to go to Maria with free ferry trips over winter. It is a truly fascinating place. I think I've been there at least ten times and every time I have found, seen and done new things.
Two weeks ago we took my daughter and six year old grandson over for a few days. He made a new best friend and also made the outstanding achievement of climbing Bishop and Clerk with only a little help up the last little climb.
