Tarkine Rainforest - Self guided trek

Postby fergug » Tue 27 May, 2014 6:03 pm

In March, a friend and I did an unguided hike through the Tarkine Rainforest.
Initially we found it really hard to find info on walking tracks in the area, so thought we should share our experience...

In the end, we used a track maintained by the commercial operator 'tarkine trails' (with their permission, although it's public land)
The trail takes you through a variety of vegetation (mostly rainforest) and ends at some really nice falls.
I think the whole track takes 6 days, but we just trekked out to the falls and back (4 days/3 nights).
It would have been nice to have some more time.

I would highly recommend going!

happy trekking!

Nice set of photos fergug, especially looking up through the trees at the end of day 2. Thanks for sharing.

Great info. Thanks for sharing. Any chance of GPS co-ordinates for each day?

it looks nice. does anyone know if you can connect the tarkine rainforest tracks with the tarkine coast trail? i think that'd be a really nice experience.

Nice. What kind of wildlife did you see ? As you know, there's a project to count the number of devils in the Tarkine, as it seems to be the last region where they're not affected by the cancer.
