Mt Dove (and more)

Postby naturelover » Fri 07 Nov, 2014 6:58 pm

Last Saturday, two Swedish girls and I had a great time climbing Dove. We had been put off by the weather, and postponed Dove until Monday, but thought we should climb something, so set off up Amos. On top we had a hail storm, but then the weather cleared a bit, so we decided to at least suss out our route for Monday as far as the saddle. Once there, we all had summit fever, so despite the late hour and the possibility of further bad weather, we moved on upwards, knowing that if things deteriorated, we could back out and do it on Monday, as planned.
This is a fabulous climb: we loved the challenge of working out our own route and then putting the plan into action. There was great excitement at the top. This was the Swedes' first mountain. They adored the view, of course.

The next day, we camped on Graham, and climbed Freycinet. A great introduction to Tasmania!

How did you find the footing? That granite gets very slippery - usual advice is not to attempt the climb.

Funny, all this time I figured the constant references to the backpacking Swedish gymnastics team were some sort of men-only in-joke. The blokes here will be devastated to have missed them.

No problems for the girls and me with footing; problems if you have Parkinson's disease. Perhaps you should read the blog to get more info.
