Little Hugel and Mount Rufus

'Stoffy' and myself went for a little walk on the weekend. Im not sure if this is the right way to show a trip report on here but here it is anyway!

Thanks for that Eggs. When Im on a mountain looking out over the other mountains, unless they are really obvious to me I am always at a loss as to what I am looking at.....and I grew up here

You got some very nice shots there.
Rufus is a wonderful place, but it's more fun to do a bigger loop - carry the packs up Little Hugel, across to Hugel, short sidetrip to the top, then down and back up over Rufus and return via the main Rufus track. No backtracking except the few metres from the start/end of the Rufus track to the carpark.
Although with snow and ice when you don't know the place it's not necessarily the best idea . . .

We loved it. Now that I've been there it looks like a place I want to spend more time in. I just bought some cheap ice cleats, Im not keen on walking on hard ice again without them.

Nice photos and trip report DanShell. We're relocating to Tassie in a few weeks, so the idea that I'll soon be able to spend my own days off like this is pretty exciting.

Once again great photos & report. Thanks for sharing. Looks chilly! I also grabbed some cheap micro spikes- last time I was in Tassie I slipped on icy board walk up near kitchen hut & ended up dislocating my shoulder I think they will be a good thing to add to the gear shed!

Lizzy, ouch! Sounds like a trip ending injury? I understand the need for boardwalk (or more the need to put something down to allow the masses to enjoy a walk) but it really does need the wire stapled to it otherwise it is silly slippery, especially when its frosty. I have a feeling your story is not the only one about an injury on wet or icey board walk.

Fanstastic area alright. that view across Shadow Lake from the campsites is one of my all time favourites.

Even with wire on it boardwalk, and especially double plank, can be very slippery once the ice builds up. I once slipped badly near Lake Salome in WoJ ending up head first in a big patch of scoparia. The only exposed skin was my hands and it it took weeks for all the tiny splinters to come out of my palms
