Frenchmans Cap, Cradle Mntn Traverse, home-made map

Postby lfrisken » Sat 21 Jan, 2017 1:30 pm

Hi, my first trip report on these forums! A New Year's trip to Frenchman's Cap, followed by a day trip to Cradle Mountain attempting the traverse.
Fantastic weather the entire time!

I also made a map of the Frenchman's Cap walk/area using data from the Tasmanian Government, which I thought I could share with some folks here.
No guarantees on its accuracy, but it did the trick for us.

Full write up, map pdf download (because it's probably too big to put here), and more photos on blog: http://lukefrisken.com/adventures/frenchmans-cap.html

Nice work! Bad luck with the aurora.

Can you explain how you went about creating the map? Software? Process?

How'd you get it printed?

hey bumpingbill, thanks!

I used QGIS (http://www.qgis.org/en/site/) and GRASS GIS (https://grass.osgeo.org/), it's actually quite a process still, I've been trying to refine and simplify it to the point where I can share it with other people. Hoping to do a write up and post it on bushwalk.com here when that happens.
