Mt. Wellington to Wellington falls via North West Bay River

Postby tom kowalski » Fri 27 Jul, 2018 11:40 am

Has anyone walked from the top of Mt. Wellington to the top of Wellington falls, following the North West Bay River. I don't believe there is a track, but is it possible to get through following the river bed?

I've done it in reverse, starting from Wellington falls and heading upstream. Bear in mind I did it in November (2016 I think), so water levels weren't high.
It was good fun actually! The rocks were dry and I never had to enter the surrounding scrub until up near the top close to Dead Island and that marshy area. There is a scree field in that area as well which is where I left the river.
There's lots of possible swimming holes and plenty of nice cascades.
I wouldn't attempt it after rain though, as the rocks would become very slippery and of course, more water means you may have to go into the scrub. If I remember to do so, I'll post a couple of pics of what some of the terrain was like when I'm on my laptop.

Yes. Dry rocks required so best done in summer.
