Appreciate that, L. I did check out your YouTube video (great resource, thanks). I found a closer-up photo elsewhere that looks very rocky under vegetation on any flattish bits near that tarn. I don't actually need it to be on the way to Nevada - just somewhere higher than the car that makes it possible for us to do Nevada as a day walk from there. My friend isn't into 12+ hour days, and I'm not fast uphill. I thought making it into an overnighter would help. But with my dodgy car, I'd rather only take it to places we're more likely to come across the odd bushwalker, just in case. Hence giving up Snowdrift Tarns.
