Journeys To Pedder audio-visual

Let me begin with a spiel... 27 contributors, 10 years in the making, 8 story tellers, 3-hour runtime, 2 sections (before and after interval), and 1 projector operator, with images culled from 1500 slides, prints and negatives, all scanned at high resolution and then lovingly restored.

Preview, Queen Victoria Museum, Launceston, Saturday 1st July
This post is about a preview of the first half, a special showing for Chris Binks, relatives, friends, and people who worked with him. He's a little shy (we had to talk him into this), so if you know Chris, or simply want to meet him before he departs to that great wilderness in the sky (he's 91 and frail), ring Jenny on 6428 2976.

Numbers are limited to around 20. It's an great venue, like a mini cinema -- tiered seating, large screen, intimate -- but the seating capacity is small.

The preview runs for 90 minutes, and contains 20 minutes of material that had to be edited out of Journeys To Pedder because of time contraints. You'll hear Chris telling stories about…

• his visits to Lake Pedder starting in 1952 when he flew in with Lloyd Jones;
• his first ascents of South Geryon, The Pinnacle, and Mt Propsting with Keith Lancaster and others;
• the Launceston Walking Club and their trips to Frenchmans Cap and Mt Anne in the early 1950s
• Dave Pinkard and the naming of Pinkard Ridge
• meeting Ernie Bond at Gordonvale

That last point is particularly interesting – Chris is very likely the last person alive to have met Ernie at Gordonvale.
