Cycling in the snow is very hard work

Hi, it was there so we had to try it - don't bother doing it it does not work.
It was so hard trying to cycle in the softer snow it proved rather a silly thing to do.
we went about 5 kms and had to turn back
OK we were up in the Vic Alps high country area and it was snowing a little bit but wow i was so pooped at trying to do it - a bit of fun at first falling off and trying to get a bit of balance and traction.
Well I guess it was there so we had a crack at it only because it was there.
Gave up and found a hut to drink the beer in :)

Well done Marty, you might need a fatboy bike.

Twelve months ago while doing the highest ten on snowshoes, in the distance I saw two cyclists near Seamans Hut riding (mostly pushing their bikes) up toward Mt Kosciuszko, later we saw their tracks on the Kosciuszko Road near Charlottes Pass.

Nice effort Marty. I've had similar problems with mud in the Flinders in SA.

Not sure what a Fatboy bike is Tony but here's what I'd like to get my hands on.

Yup, just past the gate near the air strip
the riding was not too bad along the tracks of a snow mobile (someone must have had permission to do it) but once you cracked through the icy crust you basically had a very soft landing.
the idea had been to camp at Gantners hut but there was no way we could have made it in enough time I reckon about 1-2 km's per hour meaning we needed about 30 hrs to get there. Even riding on the road where it was not snow covered we were sinking in the mud, hence the reason they shut the road off.

Yeah, I've often been up there when the road's snowbound. Would love to have the time to walk all the way into Howitt and back in winter, but it'd take at least 4 days. Still, if you could get to The *&%$#!'s Neck on the first evening, what a place for a snow camp!

Yes NNW it has been my ambition to get there once in winter and camp at VG hut so thought the snow may not be too bad - I was wrong.
So yes it will take a few days to get there along the road.
One day I will do it.
