We started down the Brandy Creek fire trail just the other side of the Hotham Village. This track took us down to the Cobungra River that was running faster and deeper that normal due to the recent rains. After walking a short distance upstream we took the option to cross Swindlers Creek then the Cobungra River as the widths were more managable and also the depth. A lunch break was taken before attempting the climb up Palling Spur.
It was a steep climb as we made our way up to Youngs Top where the ground leveled out into an Alpine plateau. It was at this point we reviewed our timings and decided to make for Youngs Hut. Youngs is a great camp spot set at the top end of a open area with a good supply of water.

The next day we made our way across the Bogong High Plains to snowpole 333 where we turned left for the walk to Blairs Hut loacted on the West Kiewa River passing the rebuilt Westons Hut on the way. After a very mild night at Blairs Hut it was a solid walk up Machinary Spur past the Red Robin Mine with lunch at Mt Loch and then walking the last section out to the Mt Loch carpark.
Total distance walked was around 30Km, most of the tracks were well defined, weather was excellent and there was no shortage of water.
