There was a lot of snakes on this walk the last time I completed it. I seen at least 4 or 5 Red Bellied Black snakes. Looking at some of these images with the overgrown tracks, reminded me of all the snakes.

Well done on your first solo overnighter, Onestepmore.....I never get tired of the early morning kookaburra alarm clock.

Thanks for posting those Phil. Can you slip in the one showing the severely eroded track in the lomandra grassland headland? Some of that was almost up to shoulder height.
And yes I was very conscious of walking in shorts and ankle high gaiters. The long ones will be coming next time I do this with hubby.

Same here, I did not have my gaiters with me and was a bit concerned. On the overgrown sections I made some noise and proceeded carefully.
That image with the eroded track section is to small, can you email me the original.

No gaiters seen here;
http://www.maxadventure.com.au/coastalc ... llery.htmlI have walked the Coastal track 4 out of the last 5 winters, leaving a car at Sutherland rail station each time. The first time was the only overnighter - from N to S, staying at the Garie Beach YHA. It perhaps was the most run-down hostel internally I have seen, yet was in a very pretty and unique locale. A clipping seen from a local paper stated; in December 2010, a bushwalker put oily foodstuff on the fixed gas stove to cook, then went outside to socialise...
In mid-July 2012, I wanted to keep it interesting, so swam at all 8 of the major beaches to the bemusement of my friends. This easily added 2 hours to the trip, though.
FWIW, doing it in a day has always seen us walk uphill from Otford Rail Station in darkness - after driving down to Sutho from the Blueys. The sunrise over the ocean is quite something.

Great that the edit button is back. I've added an additional image taken by Onestepmore on her recent adventure on this Great Walk along the coastline showing the eroded section of the track.

I don't know whether to tell you this or not but I was out on the coast track this morning and I noticed they had errected a sign all about Eagle rock. It was just on the RHS of the track as you go north. Now i will grant you it was partly obscured by shrubs and was easier to see coming south which was my direction of travel.
something to look out for next time.

I think that sign has been there for a while now.

I read this just last week and then did my own first solo overnighter but from Bundeena south to Otford. Managed to time my walk out this morning so I only had to wait a few minutes for the train!
I found your information really helpful though and will give it a try heading north next time.
cheers

Great trip report!!. Actually I did the opposite way and didn't miss the "eagle head"
.
The gear list will help me for the next trip. Nice job.

Thanks for the write up, very detailed!
My wife and I are doing this this weekend from north to south, and was wondering if anyone knew if the toilet had been fixed up?
Cheers

Toilet was so shocking at the camp ground or you could call it a golf field with that lawn, I used to hold it in till I arrived at a decent toilet.

I went past Era early in March - and there were two new toilets. I walked across to one of them - and it was locked up (still being built I guess). I didn't go to the other one - but it did look like it was being used.

Just thought I would resurrect this excellent post.
Have there been any changes to the water and toilet situation at the Nth Era campsite??
Thanks
John
