Grey Mare Cafe - water?

Thu 14 Mar, 2019 6:58 pm

Continuing plotting and planning ...

Some years ago we walked down the Grey Mare Range and camped near the old Grey Mare Cafe. We were carrying water, so we didn't go looking for any. But, if there was once a hut there (the fireplace remains), what did they do for water?

Was there a spring nearby? One would have thought so.
Does anybody know?

I assume you mean Grey Hill Cafe (kha nomenclature https://www.khuts.org/index.php/the-huts/kosciuszko-national-park/699-grey-hill-cafe. No idea but the 44 gallon drum in the background of your photo may have been part of a roof top collection system.

Hi Mark

Yeah, you could be right. Grey Hill Cafe.
I was hoping someone might be able to say something like 'go down the gully to the west for 200 m ...'

Cheers
Roger
