Barrk Walk, Kakadu, NT

Length.....12km.
6km scramble /walk up & over Nourlangie Rock then a leisurely 6km stroll around the base back to the car.
Start very early, before the heat & humidity really starts to kick in.
Take plenty o' water.....Heat exhaustion is a real possibility in the tropics. Be prepared.

With a new days red glow approaching in the east I zig zagged my way up the valley from
the Nourlangie car park.
Cool & cobwebby, the ghostly white track stood out in the darkness.
Blindly brushing against bushes holding green ant colonies provided a few painful hitchhikers though !
Snakes, lizards & dingo's were encountered , with birds of prey lazily circling on the thermals high above.

Looking back over the valley walk below. Good hammock or tent site just behind where this photo was taken.
Would be great to watch the afternoon thunder & lightning show roll in from this viewpoint,
large boulders are close by to shelter behind, when the sheets of torrential rain & the ferocious winds head your way.

New green growth.

The track passing through a rocky gulley.

Ultralight IGA backpack ;-).....full of bottled water & some essentials.

Heading down the other side of the Nourlangie to an rock art site, great walking country.

Native passionfruit. Small, sweet & juicy.

They've flashed up the signage since I was last there.
There's some great scrambling round the rock formations up on top, if the heat doesn't bother you too much. Wonderful country. Some good rockpool walks not too far away, too.

Thanks for the reply, north north west,
Its the one & only sign at the begining of the walk.
Still lots of short walks to explore ....... before the the 'wet' kicks in with vengeance.

Cheers
