Tasmanian (and other) Snow Forecast Website

Postby Son of a Beach » Thu 25 Sep, 2008 2:33 pm

A workmate just pointed me to this: http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/dynamic/tasmania

It appears to be a very useful tool, although I'll reserver my judgement as to how accurate it is after this weekend when it is forecasting snow to various part of the central plateau for the next three days, but mostly on Sunday.

After the page loads, don't change any of the settings (if it's the snow forecast you're interested in). Just leave it set to 'Snow Forecast', and ignore the overlay section.

All you need to do is drag the slider along to see the forecast for each 12 hour period for the next few days.

Well, I won't make a call on the site's overall accuracy yet, but it was certainly very wrong this last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We got about 5 minutes and 0mm of Snow on Friday night, and that was it.

However, the site's forecast seems to be based on the actual weather forecast, and I think the weather forecast was a bit wrong too. So the jury is still out on the accuracy of the snow forecasting site.

You probably already are aware that there is a very good Tassie forum where they discuss the weather forecasts etc and they are very good at predicting snow in advance at http://www.stormplanet.com
It is set up very similarly to this site. I like to take a quick look at it when trying to find out about road closures and wild weather in particular as they tend to discuss the details more thoroughly than anywhere else, especially in the local areas of the members - I think they could do with more members in some areas though, so particularly in the north it might be worth joining.
medicinal purposes only of course
