My love of kfc chicken skin and beer probably (one day) will have a flow on effect to society. Everything everyone does Does so. Many cases the effect is too small to be tangible. If theres no direct effect (ie smoking a joint then jacking a car and smashing it into the QVB) then its not worth worrying about and is small enough to say theres no measurable reaction, at least none more so than any other recreation.
wont get into the topic. Live and let live

Dan without the flavouring it's only spirit and I can buy that at Coles in the cleaning section
Whiskey is a defined product as is Whisky [ I did used to work in the industry; for Nathan and Wyeth who became Remy Australia] so these not small distinctions are important to me

Me too - I have a hankering to make some limoncello, but plain grain alcohol is hard to come by in Oz unless you have a very friendly pharmacist, or a still....

Talk about the effect of alcohol on members of a society! In a thread on a tragic event, intoxicated members of the society gravitated to a discussion on grog. Gulp!
Just move it!

Not disagreeing with your sentiment GPS, but the thread progressively diverged quite a way from the OP some way back.

Yes, the thread has long deviated. But the observation also confirmed how alcohol is ingrained in the society where there's wide acceptance and enjoyment while other illicit drugs remain controversial and divide opinions.

That's a statement I mostly agree with, MD.
I still think there is a line where it stops applying, but the general statement I can agree with.
It shouldn't apply for suicide with depression, and there are some non individual harms with some drugs. Eg alcohol related violence, THC precipitated psychosis.
One of the costs of living in a group society is that few individual choices do not affect the group in some way, necessitating some form of regulation.

I digress. I really hope the lost hiker is eventually found, giving closure to the family and helping prevent future incidents.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

The opium poppy is one of the most marvellous plants in medicine, and I have a bit to do with some of its derivatives for occasional unwinding and relaxing. I find them safe, provide the feeling I seek, and these drugs are much misunderstood, as are those who use opioids.
