Moved to Tassie

Postby Giddy_up » Fri 16 Mar, 2018 4:01 pm

Hi all,

I’ve been away from here for such a long time after an extended work program OS. Back home now but with a very nice twist, I’ve relocated to Tassie and I’ve just fallen in love with it, people, places and things to do and see. So now I need to dust off some walking gear, fix what needs to be fixed and start to explore this stunning backyard.

Cheers
GU

Hey there Giddy Up. Welcome to the Greater South Land. Excellent decision! I beat you by a decade or so, and love it every day. The only thing is, the longer I live here, and the more mountains I climb, the longer my list becomes of amazing new places to explore.

Thanks Tortoise, it sure is mesmerising. Mountains.....well there are plenty of those for us all and I suspect with winter starting it’s creep and the rain on my roof tonight those mountains will take on a new level of difficulty.

Definitely closes to door to some options and you have to be willing to cancel or change plans however it adds a whole new delight to walking here in Tas.
Way less snakes, less flies, the magic of snow and ice and an all round feeling of clear fresh air. Pretty special time of the year for walking here. Welcome!

What's all this talk of winter? Autumn has just started, and we haven't even had fagus season yet. There's heaps of time until winter hits - at least another ten days.

No it’s not cold yet, crisp early but gorgeous days. I suspect a frost in the next 10 days or so which will get the Fagus and the cameras going.

Lot's of new Tasmanians cluster in Hbt and further south,. Unfortunately, as recent /historical climate data confirms.. Generally colder in winter, hotter in summer. You'd have to expect folks to be a tad more grumpy, fractionally less happy, a hint more pasty etc.. the uspide, lot's of expats to discuss weather /c.. so you moved to the NW Giddy?

Hi Nuts, yes the NW it is. Just renting in Ulverstone for the time being until I can find a few acres that catch my eye.

Thanks Nuts. Don’t need much land just enough to try and become a little more sustainable, lower my footprint and eat the freshest I can.

Good. Nice and handy for the Tarkine.

I know of a good property in Smithton, but not sure if it's big enough for you. Established fruit trees and vegie garden etc . . .
