The Acropolis one I doubt you've touched Oll. It's a bit of a climb just to get to it.

Anyway, I count it. If you want to take it so seriously that you risk death just to touch a spot thats 2cm's higher than the one 2m away from it, thats your call MJDLEESA.
Nothing to see here.

Most of your body is higher than that pinnacle so a fair claim isn't it?
If I'm up that way again some very dry day i'll have a look, Dave Noble does say it's not as bad as you'd think.
Not sure about standing on it tho...
It's all a bit of fun, not to be taken too seriously eh what :D

It certainly scares me, but certain others seem to be immune to the prescence of death drops:

Its fascinating the apparent increase in peak baggers with the onset of new media. Facebook has become a bragbook for peakbaggers and encouraged younger generations to take up bushwalking. I'm sure it won't be too many years until there are tens of Abelists or persons who have completed the peak bagging list. It is great to see especially when Gen Y is constantly written off as lazy :D It also has been proven to be so good for you mentally as well as physically, get out there!!!!

+1 to most of that doogs, but theres probably far less young bushwalkers than there was 30 years ago from what I've seen. For example comments on this site from people who did the Eldon's or POW when they were 17-18.

"On the way up the spur - we met a party of four other bushwalkers from UNSW Bushwalking Club. They had started from the Denisons and were heading out via Mt Algonkian."
What would be the chances of that happening nowadays?

Well Dave has gone on to be a dedicated remover of weeds. I am not sure what he will do when he gets old. I shall, pass on to him the various comments recently posted in the forum; I think he will be chuffed.

I met Dave at the walkers hut at Meleuca last year. He was a hut volunteer. I forgot my woolen socks and worn through a pair of cotton ones on the Port Davey Track so he lent me some Explorers. What a champ.

Surely he gave them to you? If I ever handed over a pair of socks to someone for walking purposes I don't think I'd want them back...

It would be good if there was a website with a leaderboard, but I doubt a lot of people would contribute.

I bought Office 365 yesterday and the new EXCEL is great :) I can probably have a play with MJDs list then save it on skydrive, and share it, for anyone keen to add their peaks. It would be a great tool for finding a walking partner to buddy up with for some of the peaks on the list.

And with Forest Elves, or even, willing to porter for peakbaggers :D

I climbed 10 points last week, including the proper top of Ossa which nearly gave my companion a heart attack, but not the Acropolis, but that's not really attached to it anyway is it :?

But after a hard game of squash last night on top of the walking last week I now have very sore knees so someone to carry heavy stuff would be very welcome :D

Personally, I reckon this whole PeakBagging thing is discriminatory.
The points are the same if you're a super-fit 2 metre tall 20-something person, or an aging midget with bad knees, hips and navigational skills. What that list needs is a handicapping system.

For every five years over 30, or every two inches under 6ft, or every chronic injury issue - at the time of summitting, obviously - you get an extra percentage on your points. Much fairer.

You do give me the chuckles, NNW! Love the idea (being an aging midget with at least one dodgy knee myself).

But, what i really want is not just the satisfaction of the points, but to get to the top of more amaaaaaazing mountains, that are beyond my capability without help - I still dream of Federation, which just might be possible if I'm with the right people. That would be my Everest.

I can tell you now, most those who have finished the list are neither young, particularly tall or particularly athletic looking...its all about the resilience to suffering and prolonged persistence...it's actually quite interesting to see the broad demographic of keen Peak Baggers...its a real mixed bag, pardon the pun :)

Yeah, stu, but that's not the point (pun intended). It's much harder work for someone like me or Tortoise to get to the top of Anne than it is for Mark or young Jared, for instance. A fair points system would reflect that.
Of course, the points on the official peakbagging list are so cockeyed anyway that to ask for fairness is so ludicrous as to be insane.

For me the peak bagger list is a stimulus to visit wonderful places. I am not sure that I want to visit every peak on the list, tho I admire those who have!

How would you generate a fair points system though?? For example, 3 years ago going to somewhere like the Spires, or the Coronets would have been a much harder task for me then than it is now, and I would assume that for climbing Mt Anne might be straightforward enough for me now, but it may not be in 20 years. Do we add a point for every 5 years older we get, and an extra 2 points for every knee or hip replacement we have?? It is pretty hard to factor in age, shape, ability, confidence, into a list that satisfies everyone.

We are all forgetting that the points are irrelevant (at least it is for most of us), its the love of the activity that gets us out there climbing mountains! Use the list as inspiration, not a competition!!

For someone who has just finished a 6 week bushwalking holiday to Tasmania you certainly whinge NNW ;) It must've been awful spending all that time roaming the state without a care in the world, only thinking of where to go next...and after the summer we had down here....I am very very jealous :D

I do remind myself of that now and then, Pazz. TBH,'the list' has been fantastic for me - I've discovered magnificent places I doubt I would have bothered with if they didn't have a point or two. Love it, love it, love it. :D
