Hike for Narcolepsy

Postby Plan B » Wed 09 May, 2018 5:43 pm

This year I’m Hiking the Heysen Trail solo as a challenge to raise funds and awareness for Narcolepsy Australia.

Today, 9th May, is the launch of my fundraising page. The aim is to raise $5000 towards Narcolepsy Support Australia by the time I finish the trek.

If you could help out in any way it would mean so much to me, and every little bit will help motivate me along the trail. I don't have a huge network, so I'd love it if you could help get the word out there.

There are three main ways to be an awesome supporter:
*Contribute directly to the Hike for Narcolepsy campaign
*Spread the word and share this story with your friends and colleagues
*Follow me and share my story on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (just search for ‘Plan B Hiker’)

About 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological condition affecting the sleep centre of the brain. Symptoms can include excessive daytime sleepiness, disrupted night time sleep, sleep paralysis, hypnagogic hallucinations, extreme sleep deprivation, memory loss, confusion, lack of concentration, brain fog, and cataplexy - the sudden loss of muscle control triggered by intense emotions. The symptoms and level of severity varies from person to person. It affects the ability to work, to socialise, and to live a full life. Narcolepsy Australia work towards better treatment options for those suffering with narcolepsy.
