Can I take fruit & veges dehydrated at home to Tasmania?

Postby Wollemi » Thu 27 Dec, 2018 8:55 pm

Driving from Sydney to Tasmania soon.

Am I allowed to take fresh fruit and vegetables that I have dehydrated into Victoria? They are not in meals - just sliced pumpkin, carrots, broccoli, potatoes, oranges, lemons, kiwifruit.

What if I cross the border on the Cobb Hwy at Moama/Echuca? - There are different agricultural districts to the Hume Motorway crossing at Albury/Wodonga.

If the above is OK, am I allowed to bring these home-dried fruit and vegetables into Tasmania on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry, disembarking at Devonport?

Here is the best reference - https://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/biosecurity-t ... o-tasmania

In a nutshell it says that some commercially dried fruit and veg will be OK - no mention of home dried. As a Tasmanian I would say make it quite clear to the inspectors (in Melbourne these days) that its home dried and they may inspect it and make a decision BUT you should also be prepared to lose the lot.
Cheers - Phil

TY, tastrax ! - dpipwe staff were easily contactable today by 'phone. One can take all foods, as long as they are cooked first. Blanched vegetables appear to dehydrate faster than raw vegetables. It may be the opposite for fruit.
