Is there an Australian equivalent to this USA program?
Taking 6YO tadpole on a "bushwalk/hike soon" and looking for pre-walk videos etc to get him semi clued up.

Which brings me to the next question. Apart from a whistle on a cord around the neck what other "Survival" gear could you trust the average 6YO with?

Just keep it on a leash and you'll be fine.

Dog leashes are very good these days. :D

As far as a whistle goes .. they will use it for entertainment. Probably best and loudest when they cry out, from the volume you can judge the urgency and probable damage.
