Why was the thread about the Uluru climbing ban deleted?

Postby jdeks » Mon 18 Feb, 2019 10:26 am

Title says it all.

For reference, I'm talking about this: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/ ... ent=ubuntu

It created a debate, to be sure. But I would have thought its a relevant and worthwhile debate, and indeed it had some good discussion points on both sides.

It remained for some time but has now apparently been removed. On what grounds?

Looks like it has been turned off from viewing (not deleted) - it was descending into a bit of a tit for tat argument.

Its not exactly up for debate any more anyway. Better climb it before October if you need to.

I think people started posting examples of fraud and misuse of funds by indigenous entities and in the current climate of censorship, guilt by association, and disproportionate responses certain things are not worth risking having on a public board.

I note a conspicuous silence from the administration body.

Maybe the thread contravened the Forum Rules - http://bushwalk.com/rules.php

Do you mean the forum admins? I wouldn't expect the forum admins to respond to this topic here. The chances are they would not even notice the topic here. They likely don't have time to monitor every topic and usually just respond to reported topics/posts or to topics posted in the 'Forum and Site'.

So I think you've posted this topic to the wrong forum - it should be posted to the 'Forum and Site' forum (which is for discussion of forum issues), not the 'Bushwalking Discussion' forum (which is for discussion of bushwalking). If you don't get any response there, then you should report your own post (using the '!' icon at top right of the post) which will notify the administrators that it needs their attention.

At this point, rather than duplicate this topic in the other forum, I would suggest that you simply report it ('!' on the first post) and request that it be moved to the correct forum, and if you wish, you can also ask them to respond.

Note that this is just my opinion as a former forums admin. I have not been an admin for several years.

I seem to recall something in the rules that says moderation decisions are not open to general debate. If you want to go into this in more detail than has been posted on the thread itself, contact the admins directly.
