So back on topic, QLD Premier announced today that some Coronavirus restrictions will ease as of next weekend starting on Saturday (2nd of May 2020).

https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-26/coronavirus-queensland-restrictions-eased-premier-announces/12181838?pfmredir=sm&fbclid=IwAR1NVCdyPsgC14zmdQeKuNf6slWEef-bUzF4lZ2t8BAU5JkOKWK-FgqYjHI

Mentioned are that some of the National Parks will re-open, people will be able to visit them with one other person (still social distancing) which she also states was the case up already up until these restrictions being eased.

This is an interesting addition to that as well.

"From midnight on Friday [Saturday morning], you will be able to go for a drive," she said, adding that people must remain within 50 kilometres of their home.

This is imho where clearer language needed to be used. Some will interpret this as 50km as the crow flies, while others (possibly the police) will interpret it as 50km driving distance, according to Google maps.

For example, from where I live Flinders Peak is 34.4km as the crow flies, but 62km by road route. Can I walk there this Saturday or not? Different people will have different interpretations.

It is fantastic though to see the progress we have made as a community in crushing the curve, and a way forward to returning to eventual normality after this calamity.

The legislation states “for recreation within a 50km radius of the person’s principal place of residence;”

Can't get any clearer than "50km radius"

Ah, I was not aware that the legislation itself had been updated, and it is clear there, thanks.

However my statement that clearer language should have been used still stands, the premier did not state radius in her presser. The majority of the QLD population (rightly or wrongly) take direction from the state government and health authority media releases, few read the actual legislation (though more should)
