Quick suspenders/braces

Postby Moondog55 » Sat 28 Jun, 2014 12:27 pm

I find elastic waisted overpants uncomfortable to wear and as these have the provision for suspenders I quickly hand sewed up a set.
About a meter of the good quality braces elastic from Spotlite, 200mm of 25mm webbing; a 25mm and 32mm looplock and some rough hand stitching.
3 looplocks could be added to almost any pair of overpants and the stitching sealed with a touch of silicon if needed.
These overpants already have belt loops and the 3-bar buckle sewn on. They are also XXXL and big enough to wear over my ski pants and ski boots for when the weather is really claggy

I agree I hate elastic cutting into my 24 pack. ( it used to be a 6 pack) anyway nothing worse than having pants falling down or having to do the belt up so tight so the dont fall down. And then u get that elastic band tattoo on your gut.
Might steal your idea. What did it all cost roughly ?

Good job. We will able to spot u on the tracks moondog.

Not if I wear these other ones
I just modified my old Dutch army goretex pants to take the same suspenders

Well the fittings I have in my sewing kit, but looplocks about 60 cents each in bulk [ 500 unit box] and the elastic was about $8- a meter. as my Boss just says it's always worth buying the very best elastic for braces
You can always substitute 3-bar buckles for looplocks or use a triangle; I did it that was because it was easiest. If I was making them for sale I would use a triangle.
If you want a triangle and looplock I'll see if I have any spare, $3- to cover postage Don't leave town What colour webbing??
The important thing is not to stress the elastic too much where the stitching is that's the reason for the double layer at the back. you can economise by using more webbing and less elastic using the extra webbing on the front or you can use a doubled loop of elastic allover and use 2 more looplocks with webbing at the front, that would give the longest life.
If you use the second method you need to use the widest elastic you can afford for maximum comfort and there is a special looplock for matching sizes which I don't have
Of course you can go all the way and use more 3-bar buckles [ also called sliders] to give a huge range of adjustability
