Hi,

I want to make a pot cost for my evernew pasta pot.

I'll be using that aluminium bubble wrap stuff. What is best for taping it together with?

Cheers,

Pete

I just used Gorilla Tape. I did make mine out of one of those sun screens for cars.

Mine is almost exactly the same as norts, except I used duct tape instead of Gorilla tape.

It works really well.

Looked like Gaffer Tape to me. If it has visible threads and you can tear it by hand it is more likely to be gaffer tape. The reason I like the aluminium tape is the silicon glue being heat resistant and that it is so lightweight.
But does it matter that much?
I made one and lost it, now I just but it inside my beanie, if I can finds a beanie when I need it

It doesn't matter that much except that some tapes are kind of heavy. Part of the logic behind a pot cozy is fuel conservation. You can keep the food cooking without running the stove. But if the pot cozy weighs more than the fuel you would otherwise burn to maintain a low simmer then it's kind of silly. It would be simpler to just use the stove. And the added benefit is that the fuel is gone and weighs nothing after you've burned it whereas the pot cozy weighs the same on the hike in and hike out.

If I were going to make a pot cozy I'd avoid duct tape. Even the lightest weight versions are on the heavy side. Minimal use of some sort of tape just to hold it together would be my approach. But I long ago determined that for my cooking style it's better to simply run the stove on a low simmer.

All that said, my tape preference is for the Hello Kitty duct tape. You have to pay a premium because Sanrio licenses the image but it's so, so worth it.
