Ykk zip on the roll

Postby Petew » Sat 26 Oct, 2019 6:05 am

Hi,
Anyone know where I can buy YKK coil zip on the roll here in Australia? Looking for #3 size in std and uretek varieties, sliders too.

Can be ordered by the foot from the US and UK but pricey!

Cheers,

Pete

I have bought zip on a roll from a habadashery wholesaler in Sydney but that was a quite a few years ago, I have forgotten their name but it was in Surrey Hills. What I do when ordering myog bits to spread the postage is buy a few different buckles etc and always get a few more of any item so you have a few spares. Can you ever have too many micro cord locks  I have built up quite a collection of strangely shaped bits of plastic which come in useful every now and then.

Hi Lamont,

Funny you should say that, I'm awaiting a delivery of zips from Tread light....

They are #3 Uretek zips. They are good zips. Just slow to get here.

I thought I bought my last size 3 zip on the roll from Spotlight, or Lincraft, but I may be wrong.

Like Mark, I buy extra, and then don’t recall where I got it from! Currently making a rucksack from some XPack fabric I bought 10-12 years ago...

I want to replace the zipper on my TT Protrail.
If I can track one down quickly I will be able to get help from mum :)

Otherwise, its pegs and picaridin as a temporary. Only the bottom bit won't bite so will look into a repair.

The zippers on my bigsky revolution are a bit 'crunchy' as they go around the tightest bottom corner curve. Like that from new, will try some lube but I suspect they will be the first thing to wear out...

So a gentle pinch/clamp with pliers of the back of the zipper pull has cured the lower zip of my Protrail.
Thanks YouTube.

I did see in Spotlight today #3 and #7 nylon coil zip for sale by the metre in black, white or beige. (not ykk brand)

Despite my long history of MYO gear, I’ve never really sorted out the difference between various brands of zippers. I’ve had sliders from some that didn’t seem to fit others, but my question is whether YKK zipper is any different from any other coil zipper? If the sliders fit, does it matter what the zipper type is?

I’m currently using up the last of my Z packs sourced waterproof zipper ( no idea of brand), and about to source some #3 and #5 non waterproof zipper for some other projects.
