Antarctic Parka make my own??

Postby Moondog55 » Mon 24 May, 2010 4:22 pm

Well my wife insisted I have a chuck-out and make room for important things like her daughter and grandchild.
While cleaning up I found some old stock Ventile fabric I purchased in the late 80's, very heavy very tightly woven windproof cotton and VERY expensive if I had to replace it.

I want to use this to make a proper Antarctic style smock.
Does anybody have any proper patterns ? If no patterns exist I will ask for help with sizing and design features.
I know basically what I want.
Half zip to the waist and pull-over style.
Big double fabric hood big storage pockets below the waist and smaller pockets on the breast. drawcord waist and skirt but "WHAT ELSE"?????

Found some Japara too, from Paddy's back when they sold DIY gear.
Only 2.5meters tho.
Just ordered an old book form Amazon, Gerry Cunningham and Margaret Hannson
"Lightweight Camping Equipment and How to make it" from 1965 it has an Arctic parka pattern

Yes saw those patterns, the difficulty I see is up-sizing the pattern to allow for the extra layers of clothing that you need at minus 50C, parka needs to be about 1500mm around the chest and correspondingly long ; about 200mm longer to the waist and and with a long skirt as well.
