[STOLEN] Gear from North Hobart

Postby Steve » Sun 10 Apr, 2011 3:20 pm

I had a pack full of gear stolen from my vehicle, parked in the Burnett Street carpark, late last week. If anyone has any information about the follow please let me or the police know.

Pack - One Planet McMillian 85 litre - Burgundy
Pack Cover - Sea To Summit Bright Blue
Pack Liner Sea To Summit - Bright Red
Sleeping Bag - Outer Limits Black, Grey & Green (-5 rating)
Sleeping Mat - Exped DownMat 7 (Black)
Dry Sac - Sea To Summit eVac Dry Sack
Dry Sac - Sea To Summit eVent Compression Drysack
Tripod - Small - Aluminium
Fleece Jacket - Mountain Designs Matterhorn (Black)
Thermals - Snow Gum Thermal Leggings (Black)
Gas Stove - Kovea Titanium Gas Stove + Bottle
As well as 2 pairs of socks, a brown woolen beanie, first-aid kit, microfibre towel, billy, mug, utensils and a nalgene water bottle.

I have no idea what a city person (especially someone who goes around stealing stuff) would want with this kind of gear so they may try selling it off or dumping it somewhere. It'll put me out of action for a few months at least. Keep your eyes open if you're in North Hobart and please let me or the police know if you spot anything, thanks.

Ah man thats *&%$#! up!!

Keep an eye out in the walking shops, especially snowgum and mountain creek where they have second hand gear for sale on their pinboards.
Nothing to see here.

Worth trying the Pawn Brokers.
Print out some copies(small photos help) of the items and sending around to all the Pawn brokers in Tas.
Follow up a couple of weeks later to jog the memory banks.
I dont think they can take Sleeping bags anymore and they usually dont take clothes, however someone may offer them.
Mat, stove, tripod, sacs and Pack they will take.
Goodluck.

That's one heck of a lot of gear to loose!
You must be feeling gutted.
My mother used to have an expression "...hang them up by the balls [of their toes of course  ] at the local railway station!" (Sorry moderators! no worries. Liamy77 )
Seems appropriate.
Except I would then start throwing rocks at them.
Our gear is precious! (And some thieving little mongrel would just not understand that!)

Lowlifes, hope they are stupid enough to try and sell it on the forum.

Never felt so ****** off and utterly gutted in my life. First time I've ever had anything stolen and it couldn't have been much worse.
I was only in Hobart for a few days and back up north again now so I can't really keep an eye on any of the shops down there but thats good thinking, I'll get in touch with them.

Thanks for the support and visions of corporal (verging on capital) punishment.

Do you know about google alerts?
Where you can set up custom searches and if something new on the internet (AKA trading post, eBay, every other thing) gets seen by google, you get an email.
It's great, but you do need to be selective in your keyword selection or you will get a lot of email...
Maybe set up a new custom gmail email address just for the search so as not to bog your normal email down, then set up several keyword searches.
If something gets listed for sale, a bit of digging to see where it can be picked up from.

Once you confirm the goods are yours (photos) and you have the address, send some abusive letters to the bikie group clubrooms, with a return address of... Ooh, did I suggest that? Oops... I mean call the police and pass on your findings.
Good luck!

I know this was a while ago now but I am sorry to hear about the loss of your gear, that would really upset me up too. I have a S2S microfibre towel, Kathmandu water bottle, a few dry sacks and a S2S UL spoon that I am happy to post to you to help rebuild your gear? PM me your address and I will post it off to you.
