Camelbak Lobo™ 3L Hydration Micro-Pack

A place to chat about gear and the philosphy of ultralight. Ultralight bushwalking or backpacking focuses on carrying the lightest and simplest kit. There is still a good focus on safety and skill.
Forum rules
Ultralight Bushwalking/backpacking is about more than just gear lists. Ultralight walkers carefully consider gear based on the environment they are entering, the weather forecast, their own skill, other people in the group. Gear and systems are tested and tweaked.
If you are new to this area then welcome - Please remember that although the same ultralight philosophy can be used in all environments that the specific gear and skill required will vary greatly. It is very dangerous to assume that you can just copy someone else's gear list, but you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and start reducing the pack weight and enjoying the freedom that comes.

Can't comment on that model but I still have a camelbak bag from before they released the anti-dote bladders and a very old 2L only pack.... Beat the crap out of them mountain biking and hunting still coming back for more. I actually wise camel back did the packs separate. I'd love a few different sized packs but I don't need a few bladders.

Was yours Military spec or Civie spec?

The Mil ones seem to use a lot heavier material while the Civ spec ones don't with single stitched not double stitched.

I'm not so sure the Civie spec ones are all that tough, time will tell...

That doesn't look too bad I have a lot of trouble trying to get Camelbaks sitting on my back comfortaby when you throw a few things in them. My MULE feels like a sausage strapped to your back so I usually use my Deuter for riding.

Camelbak possibly have a lifetime warranty now(?) so keep your receipt, I have heard that they are really good with warranties.

Takes a lot of flushes to get the plastic taste out and then on hot days it will still come back, some people use bleach or baking soda which also cleans them really well when they get manky.
Source bladders are almost as bad as the Camelbak ones, Platypus are by far the best for taste but some come with hoses that give a plastic taste, the only Camelbak hydration bit I use now is the bite valve.

Oh great, I just paid $90 to drink pond water!

I always wondered what Sterident was used for and now I know why...

No one ever mentioned the hugely awful taste of Antidote plastic, until now after purchase!

Webbing at the top of the shoulder straps is missing in the latest version! Yours looks as if it has been designed for duarbility while mine is more Guuchi Style. Styling being the operative word here...

Anyway, I have it now and so I'll report any issues I have with it!

The Mil versions are more my style and I might just get one anyway...

...thanks for the pics, yes it does look durable. :)

So relieved!

Taste has now gone after a good rinse through with bicarb soda wash. The bladder is only filled with BRITA filtered water now and there is no taste imparted by the bladder plastic since.

Just to reiterate. This now junk product from Sunbeam gets rid of all the bad tastes out of tap water 100% and does not contaminate the AntiDote bladder in the CamelBak with any tastes or residues...

I find it interesting that you would even contemplate a camelback. I've needed to use a hydration pack over my last few long runs. And... I know, running and bush walking aren't really the same. However, I tend to use the front pockets on hydration packs to store things that I need to access while running. Like a water bottle if it doesn't come with a bladder, and some 'nutrition' AKA, jelly snakes and mints, a chap stick ect. And tissues, for runny noses and toilet stops. Which you tend to do, while wearing your pack. So everything is where it needs to be without needing to stop and take the pack off.
I borrowed this one, and it worked a treat- http://www.wiggle.com.au/ultimate-direc ... e-vest-20/

But others that I like the look of are the following;
http://www.wiggle.com.au/ultimate-direc ... tra-vesta/
http://www.wiggle.com.au/nathan-intensi ... t-2-litre/
http://www.wiggle.com.au/salomon-advanc ... ro-12-set/
http://www.wiggle.com.au/salomon-s-lab- ... 2set-ss15/

I've been looking! But ouch, can't afford them! I have since modified a $15 K-mart hydration vest that does the job up to 20km but isn't quite as good. The Ultra runners and trail runners have to have everything with them (kind of like Ultra light hikers really) so these packs have spots for your poles, first aid ect and are extremely light to carry.

The lack of pockets on the front of camel back packs astound me! Why on earth wouldn't you want front pockets?

'Cause i didn't want front pockets! But then I'm not a runner and I like to stop for a break and the pack comes off in an instant.

I only carry 2 snack bars, toilet paper, tissues, car keys, knee wrap, stretch bandage, Blistex, phone and 1.5ℓ in bladder in the CamelBak Lobo.

The water tube allows for non stop drinking and the rear internal pockets supply the goodies during 'off pack' breaks, just what I wanted. :)

I have the original Mule. Purchased some 15+ years ago and used frequently over the years MTB riding and racing. Ive been through a few bladders but the pack hasnt failed yet.

I went to buy a new one this year for no other reason then i thought the new ones might be better. Well imo the new ones are junk and wouldnt last anywhere near as long as my original one thus im extremely dissapointed with Camelbak.

There are two completely different use product ranges of Camelbak!

The civilian spec ones that are lighter materials with mesh webbing and then there is the military spec ones that are still as tough with the heavier ballistic nylon fabrics and webbing...

Which one are you referring to?
