Eco-Phantom-Light

Weekend musings, I propose a new category to the global bushwalking/tramping/trekking/hiking community. Not really a new thing... Neo-paleo perhaps.

Eco-Phantom-light, being a sub 1001g base weight.

Close to living off the land, be it nature or bin diving!

A complete kit may include:

Pocket knife;
Water bottle;
PLB;
Snake bandage;
Wear suitable night layers and carry over the shoulder during the day;
Length of rope;
Map & compass (optional);
Carry bag or sac (optional).

So you just walk, find shelter, water & food

Disclaimer: do try this at home first!

This reads like really ultra-light bushcraft. It ultimately depends on damaging the environment to provide bedding, food and possibly shelter. Certainly something I won't be pursuing.

Bushcraft may be considered damaging, especially in our over populated world. I was thinking more of camp caves, log hollows etc as shelter for a night.

Topic title amended!

I'll add this for reference and clarification of the proposal:

You could go lower and still bring your own shelter and quilt. Here is a list that includes a 10C quilt weighing in at 876g:

S2S ultra sil daypack 72g
Ocean Signal PLB! 116g
Petzel eLITE 26g
Zpacks Pocket Tarp 109g
Polycryo Ground sheet 46g
Locus gear Onda mat cut down 160g
EE Enigma 10C 270g
Water bottle 500ml 10g
Evennew 400ml Cup 50g
Exotec nanoSpark 17g

Still got 125gs for some luxury items!
I guess you could live off the land in some places but you'd get pretty bored of eating RTA Grass (Lomandra longifolia) pretty quickly around my way

Like it! crollsurf

The Aussie indigenous were migratory, food in season in different places.

That kit is perfect Croll.

Those s2s packs actually carry ok with a bit of weight in them. I’ve been using one as a shopping bag for a bit. With the pad as a back panel it would be luxurious.

I’ve got mostly similar items to that list already. Might do an Eco-phantom overnighter. Everyone already thinks I’m weird enough carrying my “school bag” around.

Probably wise to include some mini first aid items too, like an all-purpose wound disinfectant.

My nephew has done this for years - they call it “belt camping” - ie what you can carry on your belt.
