Hi
Wanting to try some cuben fibre stuff sacks, dry bags, peg & pole bags etc.
Any available for purchase in AU? Anyone made their own & wants to sell some?
Any purchase advice? Zpacks? HMG? Treadlite gear?
Zpacks seem cheapest, but Postage is $US 20+! despite the fact stuff sacks are 2-10g
Anyone interested in joint purchase & splitting postage costs?
Has anyone tried Zpacks bear bag to defeat wombats &/or possums?
Cheers
Ruth

Ruth, my advice would be to stay away from DCF stuffsacks and dry bags. They develop holes extremely quickly and don’t weigh much less than Sil. This is coming from years of experience using them as well.

To answer your questions properly. I have had good luck buying stuff sacks from zpacks and Borah Gear. The latter being the cheapest and quickest. I have a thicker zpacks peg bag that is still kicking as well. Their semi transparency makes it easy to find things inside.

Hi
Thanks very much for that feedback. OK will stay with sil stuffsacks & dry bags.
So thicker DCF peg bag & tent pole bag are more durable? Just trying to reduce some weight so Zpacks 2.5g $6 stake bag & 5g pole bag seemed a possible alternative to my current exped pole/stake bag)

I guess it will come down to what you feel is more important .
Grams or dollars in the bank.
Does the few grams you save on Cuben justify spending the money?
Tarp or tent where the difference is a half kilo or so but for small stuff where the weight saving is maybe 10 grams?

Not meaning to be sound like a nuffy but out of curiosity; why do you need a peg & a pole bag? The pegs and poles can be rolled up in the tent or tarp and all is well right?!

How many $ are you spending to save how much weight?

Would the same $ save more weight elsewhere?
Make a spreadsheet and look at where $ can be spent for the best weight loss. It may not be in stuff sacks for pole and pegs.

I am with 'safari' on the poles inside the tent roll .. but pegs tend to have sharp ends and can get sharp nicks in them .. so I put those in a bag .. with a robust end.

As Warin says pegs usually have sharp point and can be wet or dirty so a separate bag is usually advised. As for tent poles, they can often be too long for easy packing and may need to be packed vertically - preferably inside the pack.

Stake bags are useful.

I thought a bit of transparency would of been good. Its never nice when someone uses this forum as a platform for advertising their business and contributes nothing else.

They listed themselves as the company in the affiliated organisations section. Which shows up in their post when viewing on desktop. Unfortunately on mobile this section is hidden.

Hi all sorry if I offended, I've listed my business on the business section of this site. It's brand new, as am I to the world of starting and operating an online business and I can assure you it's a steep learning curve. I can see there was a comment about it not showing up on the mobile section of the site ?!?!? Not sure what that means but I can assure you I'll check out how I can make it as transparent as possible.

No offence was taken. Thanks for making it clear. It might help others when you mention your business not to word it like - "there is a new online company selling..." but rather "My new online company sells...". This will help with the transparency.

Good luck with the business.

Hi Ruth, I use a zip peg bag from Tread Lite Gear UK that has a toughened layer on the pointy end, to prevent pegs from spiking thru and damaging my tarp or other gear. The peg bag is attached to the foot end of my tarp, at the centre point so that it hangs and does not lay in the mud if ground is wet. Never have to worry about misplacing the bag or it blowing away, or forgeting to pack pegs as they are always attached. Give the pegs a quick clean before storing, a quick zip (no knots required which is good for frozen cold hands) and rolling up into the tarp. Been using this for 3yrs now and a very excellent product, hanging the bag keeps crap out of the zipper, never had a problem, protects my gear, and very happy with the quality. Hope this is helpful, Regards, Cat

Tread lite gear stuff is nicely made, I have a few bits and bobs from them. The postage is much cheaper than zpacks.
